A Unix timestamp counts seconds since 1 January 1970 UTC. It is unambiguous and easy to store, and completely unreadable. This converter takes either direction, and detects whether you have pasted seconds or milliseconds — guessing wrong puts the answer roughly 50,000 years out.
How to use it
- Paste a timestamp, or a date in almost any format.
- Read the conversions — Unix seconds, milliseconds, ISO 8601 and UTC.
- Check the relative line for how long ago it was.

Frequently asked questions
Seconds or milliseconds?
Ten digits is seconds, thirteen is milliseconds. Unix tooling and PHP use seconds; JavaScript Date.now() uses milliseconds.
What is the 2038 problem?
A signed 32-bit timestamp overflows on 19 January 2038. Any system still storing timestamps in a 32-bit integer will fail then. Use 64-bit.
Why does my time look wrong by a few hours?
You are comparing UTC with local time. Timestamps have no timezone — the offset is applied when you format them.
