Resizing changes the pixel count, which is what actually reduces file size. Serving a 4000-pixel photograph into a 800-pixel slot wastes most of the download.

Enlarging cannot invent detail — scaling past the original dimensions produces a softer image, not a sharper one.

How to use it

  1. Drop in your image.
  2. Enter a width or height, or pick a preset.
  3. Keep the ratio locked unless you deliberately want to distort it.
  4. Download the result.

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing blur my image?
Making it smaller will not. Making it larger will, because there is no extra detail to draw on — the browser interpolates between existing pixels.
What does locking the aspect ratio do?
It keeps width and height in proportion so the image is not stretched. Unlock it only when you intend to distort the picture.
What size should I use for the web?
Roughly twice the display size, to stay sharp on high-density screens. A 600-pixel-wide slot wants an image around 1200 pixels.
