Method

Two approaches, with different consequences. Optimise structure rewrites the file and strips unused objects — completely lossless, but the saving is modest and sometimes nil. Rasterise renders each page to a compressed image, which shrinks scanned documents dramatically but turns selectable text into a picture.

The result and the saving are shown before you download, so you are never guessing.

How to use it

  1. Drop in your PDF.
  2. Choose lossless optimisation or rasterising.
  3. Check the size comparison, then download.

Frequently asked questions

Why did lossless mode barely help?
Because the file was already efficient. Most of the size in a text PDF is fonts and content streams, which cannot be shrunk without discarding something.
When should I rasterise?
For scanned documents, where the pages are already images. Never for a document whose text needs to stay searchable or selectable — rasterising destroys that.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
